The ISoOR Accreditation Body (ISoOR-AB) was established to address the increasing need for a structured, internationally harmonized system of quality assurance in the field of organoid biobanking. It was founded by the International Society of Organoid Research (ISoOR), a global organization committed to advancing organoid science across academia, healthcare, industry, and regulatory sectors.

Since 2023, ISoOR has actively contributed to the development of the field through international conferences, scientific workshops, and the promotion of the Journal of Organoid and Bioscience (JOBs). A major milestone in these efforts was the development of the ISoOR-ISOB, the first international standard for organoid biobanking. This standard was established through the work of an international technical committee composed of leading experts from more than ten countries, representing all five continents. It defines a comprehensive framework for quality, reproducibility, and ethical governance in organoid biobanking.

The ISoOR-ISOB standard provided the technical and regulatory foundation for the creation of ISoOR-AB. As an accreditation body operating in accordance with the principles of ISO/IEC 17011, ISoOR-AB directly evaluates and accredits organoid biobanks against the requirements established in the ISoOR-ISOB standard, through its own technical and assessment structure and appointed experts. Where appropriate, ISoOR-AB may also use Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) or external experts as complementary support within the assessment process, while at all times maintaining full authority and responsibility for accreditation decisions.

Although established by ISoOR, ISoOR-AB operates with structural, functional, and governance independence in all its accreditation activities, ensuring impartiality, transparency, and the absence of conflicts of interest.

The development of ISoOR-AB involved an extensive institutional and regulatory build-up, including the creation of governance structures, procedures, and policies aligned with international best practices. Through ongoing stakeholder engagement and international cooperation, ISoOR-AB aims to support global alignment, foster trust, and contribute to the consistent, responsible, and ethically grounded advancement of organoid technologies.
