The ISoOR Accreditation Body (ISoOR-AB) was established to address the increasing need for a structured, internationally harmonized system of quality assurance in the field of organoid biobanking. Founded by the International Society of Organoid Research (ISoOR), a global organization committed to advancing organoid science across academia, healthcare, industry, and regulatory sectors.
Since 2023, ISoOR has actively contributed to the development of the field through international conferences, scientific workshops, and the promotion of the Journal of Organoid and Bioscience (JOBs). A major milestone in these efforts was the development of the ISoOR-ISOB, the first international standard for organoid biobanking. This standard was established through the work of an international technical committee composed of leading experts from more than ten countries, representing all five continents. It defines a comprehensive framework for quality, reproducibility, and ethical governance in organoid biobanking.
The ISoOR-ISOB standard provided the foundation for the creation of ISoOR-AB. As an accreditation body operating in accordance with ISO/IEC 17011, ISoOR-AB evaluates and formally recognizes conformity assessment bodies (CABs) against this standard. Although established by ISoOR, the accreditation function is structurally and operationally independent, ensuring impartiality, transparency, and the absence of conflicts of interest.
The development of ISoOR-AB involved an extensive institutional and regulatory build-up, including the creation of governance structures, procedures, and policies aligned with international best practices. Through ongoing stakeholder engagement and international cooperation, ISoOR-AB aims to support global alignment, foster trust, and contribute to the consistent and responsible advancement of organoid technologies.
